Tongue Scraper - Oral Hygiene

Treat bad breath with a tongue scraper

Scrape your tongue. Waste products are processed at night, and most bacteria live on the tongue. Therefore, remove it before brushing your teeth and eating breakfast.

Use a copper tongue scraper for the most cleansing effect.

Bacteria grow on the back of the tongue, giving off that unpleasant odor. So, if you have a rough tongue, you'll have more bad breath than if you have a smooth tongue.

The surface of our tongue contains deep pores and taste buds. These pores harbor a great deal of bacteria and fine debris from what we eat and drink.

Why Choose a Copper Tongue Scraper?

Copper ions bind to volatile sulfur compounds on the tongue. These sulfur compounds are the cause of bad breath (halitosis). Therefore, copper tongue scrapers are much more effective for maintaining long-lasting fresh breath.

  • Research shows that each epithelial cell in our tongue can harbor an average of about 100 bacteria. So, overall, we can speak of a highly concentrated amount of bacteria.
  • The tongue is constantly forming a layer of dead cells, food debris, and hundreds of thousands of bacteria, both living and dead, plus chemicals such as sulfur released by these bacteria.
  • If this layer isn't removed regularly, a thick film remains on the tongue, which is one of the main causes of bad breath. In addition, the taste buds also become coated and function less effectively.
  • Finally, many people often sleep with their mouth open, which means that when they wake up, the tongue has a bad taste and is dry.

Daily use of a tongue scraper, together with proper toothbrushing, is very effective for oral hygiene.

    Short description

    USAGE
It's very easy. After brushing, gently—don't be too hard—scrape the entire surface of your tongue. Be careful not to scrape too far back, as you don't want to scrape the part of the tongue where many large taste buds are located. You'll see that you're scraping off a large amount of debris. Rinse under running water repeatedly and repeat the process until no more debris comes off your tongue.
It's recommended to do this morning and evening; some people who experience dry mouth or a bad taste in their mouth during the day may do it more often. It appears that with high levels of stress, the tongue produces more debris, which is why tongue scraping is recommended more often.
The tongue scraper we offer is made of copper, is durable, and easy to use. Firmly grasp the ends of the cleaner with both hands and pull the pre-curved cleaner, centered, over your tongue. Rinse repeatedly under running water. Three scrapings is usually sufficient. Don't repeat this process indefinitely! Rinse your mouth thoroughly afterward, optionally with a natural mouthwash.
Some people think that cleaning their tongue with a toothbrush is sufficient. Try it yourself: do this first, and then see how much more comes off when you use the tongue scraper.

    More information

Anyone who regularly scrapes their tongue and brushes their teeth well, but still suffers from bad breath, should consult their dentist.

In Ayurveda, the use of a copper tongue scraper has been recommended for thousands of years as part of daily oral and body care, a ritual called dinacharya. According to Ayurveda, tongue scraping not only helps remove bacteria and waste products (ama) from the tongue but also helps restore the balance between the three doshas—vata, pitta, and kapha—which govern every aspect of our health.

    Why copper?

Copper is an important element in Ayurveda due to its natural antibacterial, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties. It helps effectively eliminate bacteria and toxins. Copper is also said to boost energy and aid in digestion, which is important to the Ayurvedic approach to overall health.

Benefits of a copper tongue scraper in Ayurveda:

    1. Removes ama: In Ayurvedic teachings, ama (toxins) is an important concept. Tongue scraping removes these toxins, which benefits digestion and energy levels.

    2. Dosha Balance: Tongue scraping is said to help manage excess kapha (mucus) on the tongue, which supports dosha balance.

    3. Improved Taste and Digestion: Cleansing the taste buds improves the sense of taste, which Ayurveda believes is essential for a well-functioning digestive system.

    4. Positive influence on prana (life energy): By removing bacteria and toxins, tongue scraping contributes to the flow of prana, which promotes energy and mental clarity.

How to use a copper tongue scraper according to Ayurveda?

Tongue scraping is recommended as the first step in the morning routine, immediately after waking up and before eating or drinking.

Scrape your tongue from back to front with a gentle, flowing motion. Repeat this 7 to 10 times for optimal effect.

Clean the scraper thoroughly after use and rinse your mouth to remove any remaining debris.

The use of a copper tongue scraper according to Ayurveda is therefore not only intended for oral hygiene, but also to promote overall physical and mental balance.
